All Portugal Tourism Guide - Portugal Golf

Portugal reigns supreme as a destination for golf holidays in Europe. The choice of Portugal golf courses is huge, particularly around the Algarve, Lisbon and the Estoril Coast and around Porto to the North.

Luxury Portuguese golf resorts are appearing, especially around the central Algarve area and Vilamoura.

Central & East Algarve Golf Break Holidays Portugal

Portugal is a country that loves its golf, and the Algarve with its all year round mild climate is one of Portugal's golf holiday hotspots.

Vilamoura, as many a golf fan knows, is the capital of golf on the Algarve. The Oceanico Golf developers have seven no less luxury golf courses, 5 of which are championship golf courses in the Vilamoura area. See Vilamoura Golf Algarve weblinks right for details.

Albufeira makes as superb central Algarve base for family golf holidays. A choice of golf courses near Albufeira coincides with great family holiday attractions.

Quinta do Lago is recognised as one of Europe's best golf holiday resorts - four luxurious 18 hole golf courses are in the area, and two of these are listed in Europe's top 25 golf courses. Eastern Algarve golf holidays are excellent too, with a choice of golf courses around Moncarapacho, Tavira and Algarve golf hotspot Castro Marim.

West Algarve Golf Holidays

West Algarve golf break choice is excellent, particularly around Lagos, Carvoeiro and Portimao.

The Penina Golf Resort near Portimao offers three no less glorious Algarve golf courses incuding an 18 hole championship golf course.

Both Lagos and Carvoeiro areas are also well served by a choice of luxury Algarve Golf Courses.

Lisbon Golf Holidays Portugal

Much like Portugal golf course development around Porto and North Portugal, Lisbon golf really picked up towards the end of the 19th century. It got a boost from English residents in Lisbon. Golf courses are prevalent across the whole of the Lisbon suburb areas including particularly Estoril, Cascais, Sintra and down south around Setubal and the Troia peninsula. Lisbon golf holiday package choice is now almost as good as Algarve golf - maybe not in numbers of golf courses, the Algarve still reigns supreme there. However, the luxurious quality of Lisbon's golf holiday complexes is outstanding.

Lisbon is a golf mecca, and you've access too to Lisbon's exciting city centre, and superb beaches around the Estoril and Sul do Tejo coasts. Championship golf courses are at Troia and Cascais, and the Sul do Tejo area is particularly well covered for golf holidays. See weblinks right for individual golf courses in the Lisbon, Estoril and Sul do Tejo/Setubal, Troia and Sesimbra areas.

Madeira Golf Holidays, Azores Golf Courses

Madeira and neighbouring Porto Santo contain three superb golf courses in all. These include in Madeira, Santo da Serra Golf (27 holes), Palheiro Golf (18 holes) and in Porto Santo the Porto Santo Golf Course (18 holes plus 9 hole/par 3 pitch and putt).

Not many golf courses maybe, but each is of the highest luxurious quality, with excellent golfing facilities and easy access to Madeira's capital Funchal and its stunning landscape, and on Porto Santo near glorious beaches.

The Azores is well served by golf courses, and plans are afoot for more golf at Sao Miguel, Santa Maria and Faial Azores Islands.

Currently there are three golf courses on the Azores - one on Terceira at Praia da Vitoria, and two on Sao Migeul in Ponta Delgada and Furnas.
