Manta Rota, just to the west of Monte Gordo, is a quieter Algarve resort beach base, yet within easy reach of the bustle at Monte Gordo.
Little, well equipped Manta Rota sits on the stretch of Algarve coast referred to as Sotavento - it's shelted and unspoilt here, with plenty of peace and quiet. Add to this a sublime uncrowded Algarve beach and seafront, a choice of restaurants, local luxury Algarve golf and some of the warmest sea temperatures on the Algarve - you've all the recipe for a quiet Algarve luxury beach holiday.
Algarve holiday accommodation veers towards the luxury end here, with a choice of Algarve luxury villas and self catering apartments. The village is mostly 'quiet residential' - no mammoth hotels and apartment blocks here, so somewhat of a contrast to nearby Monte Gordo.
Car hire Algarve is highly recommended here, for pushing perhaps east to Vila Real de Santo Antonio and even across the Spanish border, or west to the historic Algarve centres of Faro and Tavira.
Manta Rota's Algarve beach also happens to be a bit of a well kept secret on the Algarve surfing hotspot scene. Attracted by its quietness, and the warm sea temperatures surfers report some big swells here at Manta Rota - but there needs to be an easterly wind, or a levante wind in Portuguese.
